This year’s magical show seeks to honor the transitions that have been ever-present on a small and large scale over the past 22 years in Grand Marais. Just as seasons come and seasons go, people come and people go. Since 1999, Good Harbor Hill Players has been creating the Summer Solstice Pageant tradition and legacy, and this year, the show production and story creation transitioned into new hands. The creativity, generosity, wisdom and vitality with which this show has taken root has planted seeds within many community members and the new team and participants are honored to carry the scroll forward.

The winds of change have been blowing strong. Locally, Grand Marais experienced several intense windstorms this season, with wind gusts up to a record-setting 74 mph. We also had record snow accumulation this winter. The show will recognize the heartiness required to reside on the North Shore, as well as the magic the wind, water, weather and Big Lake instill in all of us.

The Summer Solstice Pageant will also celebrate that our beloved Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) now meets the criteria for a "Wilderness Quiet Park Award."

The award was given on March 20, 2023 to recognize its pristine soundscape and lack of man-made noise intrusions, a rare feat even in our country’s remote wild places. The Boundary Waters is the second recipient of the Wilderness Quiet Parks award in the United States, after Glacier National Park in 2022.

This show will honor the founding members of the Good Harbor Hill Players while introducing a new generation of makers and players to the Summer Solstice community.

Power to the Puppets! See you Saturday night!
